“Knowledge can best be given where there is eagerness to learn, so this is the period when the seed of everything can be sown, the child’s mind being like a fertile field, ready to receive what will germinate into knowledge.” –Dr. Maria Montessori

The Toddler Program at Little Miners Montessori is for children 18 months to 3 years old.  Their newly built classroom has been specifically designed to meet the needs of this age group.  Children learn through play and discovery.  A child’s natural path to knowledge follows the whims of curiosity and wonder.  Our Toddler Program will set children in this age range on a lifelong path of exploration, in an environment created especially for the mind, body and heart of a young child.  Our dedicated, nurturing and trained teachers have designed a curriculum  that nourishes cognitive development, speech and language development, strengthens fine and gross motor skills, and encourages independence.

The toddler exercises and activities recognize that children learn by doing.   In our Sensorial environment of order and simplicity, all aspects have been tuned into the rhythm of  a child.  The height of the doorknobs and size of the tables and chairs, the structure of a child’s day, have all been carefully planned to fulfill toddlers’ needs, while empowering their sense of self-worth and optimum development.  For example, practical life activities such as getting dressed, setting the table, or sweeping the floor develop a sense of pride and excitement at this age.  Sequencing, sorting and recognizing patterns are fun and lay the foundation for math and language skills.  Toddlers’ experiment with art mediums, engage in lessons that encourage sensory and motor development, and enjoy outdoor time every day that weather permits.

At Little Miners Montessori the Toddler Program offers 2 and 3-day mornings as well as 5 full days a week.  Upon completion of the Toddler Program, children seamlessly transition into our Early Childhood Program.
